Aerotech has introduced a sealed version of its AGS series linear motor driven, X-Y gantry system. The innovative design is aimed at applications where process produced debris or environmental conditions may inhibit performance of bearings and linear motors or compromise sensitive measuring components. The complete system would typically include all drive and control electronics, cable management and customer supplied services, granite or composite machine base, and operator interface.
The AGS series gantry is a high specification, 'H' frame design based upon linear motion guide bearings and direct drive linear servo motors with high resolution linear scale encoder feedback. Available for large work area applications in a choice of accuracy grades and gantry configurations, options include dual driven lower axes for higher positional precision and greater acceleration potential. Travel range is from 0.5 m x 0.5 m up to 1.2 m x 1.2 m as standard and accuracy can be in the region of +/- 5 μm and repeatability to +/- 2 μm. Z and rotary axes may also be integrated as required for a complete mechanical position solution.
The sealed gantry is based upon bellows type sealing. Aerotech are also able to apply its hard top and side sealing design to the gantry system which will allow additional travel in a sealed design and offers an improved level of protection for applications where substantial machined debris or more adverse environmental conditions exist. The hard top/side sealed design has been well proven on many of Aerotech's linear motor and ball screw driven positioning stages and is particularly suited to applications such as high throughput laser machining and welding.
