Aerotech, a world leader in the design, manufacture and integration of advanced motion components and systems, has released a new publication highlighting its strong pedigree in the fields of laser and photonics processing, medical device manufacturing and life sciences.
The publication, Automation Solutions for Laser Processing, Medical Device Manufacturing and Life Sciences, elaborates on Aerotech's comprehensive product offering across these three high-precision markets - all of which are founded on tolerances down to micron level and quality levels far above industry norms.
Aerotech has supplied the laser industry for years and understands its unique demands. Developments in the areas of mechanics, controls, software and laser control provide Aerotech's customers with the best possible automated motion systems. Notable achievements in this arena include: position-synchronised laser output; hard-cover, sealed stages for long life, low maintenance operation; and recent developments include the ability to seamlessly integrate PLCs and vision capabilities with software-only motion control.
Products covered in the publication include the company's Laser Edge range that encompasses control, position synchronised output, mechanics and linear and rotary stages. Part of the control suite is the new A3200 the World's first intelligent 32-axis motion, vision and I/O system. Featuring a software-only controller it also takes advantage of the amazing speeds offered by the IEEE-1394 (Firewire) serial bus, a protocol that offers 3.2Gbps over fibre connections and speeds 30 to 100 times faster than competitive motion networks. Aerotech is also able to offer engineered systems such as 5-axis gantry robots for cutting, drilling and vacuum applications.
The need for high performance motion systems in the medical/life sciences industries has driven Aerotech to develop a range of application-specific systems. These applications, which vary a great deal in operation, end product and processing parameters, all demand high levels of tolerance and accuracy. They include stent cutting, DNA and blood sequencing, contact lens manufacturing, X-Ray machines, CAT scanners, pacemaker welding systems and MRI scanners.
Aerotech can supply: high-speed cylindrical laser cutting machines, that offer a resolution of 7,200,000 counts per revolution; the LMA gantry, a high-speed, high precision robot spotter for DNA microarrays, providing provides ±1µm accuracy over 25mm; ATS and ALS linear stages for laser seam welding for hermetic application; and a variety of custom systems such as those used in the manufacture of artificial joints.
The publications goes into depth on the capabilities offered by all of these systems as well as highlighting some of Aerotech's other products, its awards and its comprehensive website, which offers designers a one-stop-shop for 2D and 3D models, company news and access to its e-newsletter.
