Laser Processing Research System


This laser processing research system provides motion for three applications: fiber Bragg, laser micromachining, and additive manufacturing. Direct-drive, air-bearing stages provide excellent velocity control and straightness/flatness of motion.  

It is comprised of Aerotech's ABL2000 air-bearing linear stage with laser interferometer feedback. This feedback device provides the ultimate for high-precision motion control applications. The combination of high resolution and outstanding accuracy has made it the ideal transducer for manufacture of fiber Bragg gratings up to 1 meter long.

The ABL9000 XY air-bearing stage incorporates an active preload on both vertical and horizontal surfaces as well as a planar design. It is perfect for the contoured motion required for laser fabrication and additive manufacturing.

The system is controlled by Aerotech’s A3200 software-based machine controller and Npaq drive rack with linear servo amplifiers. It is programmable in native RS-274 G-code, AeroBasic™ command set, C, C++, .NET, MATLAB®, LabVIEW®, or IEC 61131-3 (LD, FBD, ST) for flexibility.

3-Axis Galvo Scanner Laser Marking System

This three-axis linear motion system with galvo scanner provides high performance for laser marking applications. The linear stages and galvo are integrated and precisely aligned on a granite plate with bridge.

Horizontal motion is provided by Aerotech’s PlanarDL two axis, mechanical bearing, linear-motor stage. It uses anti-creep, precision crossed-roller bearings for excellent geometric performance with a low profile. Vertical motion with high resolution is achieved with the ANT130-L-ZS direct drive stage with nearly frictionless dual-counterbalance.

Aerotech’s Nmark AGV-HPO advanced galvanometers are capable of industry-best resolution of >24-bits when used with Aerotech's Nmark GCL controller. The Infinite Field of View (IFOV) feature seamlessly synchronizes servo and scanner motion under one controller environment to allow fast scanner positioning over the entire servo travel, eliminating galvo field of view constraints.
