ASR1400 Mechanical-Bearing Direct-Drive Rotary Collet Stage
Aerotech’s ASR1400 direct-drive rotary collet stage combines high-dynamic performance with broad workpiece capacity, accommodating tube diameters from 200 µm to 15 mm. A high-precision TF20 dead-length collet prevents axial tube shift during regripping to reduce stitching errors and improve part reproducibility. Workpieces can be loaded from the front and rear of the stage to support automated part handling, and internal seals protect against the ingress of process debris and other contaminants. The result: faster processing, greater versatility and lower production costs.

Key Applications
ASR1400 is ideal for applications that involve manufacturing or processing cylindrical parts, including:
- Stent & hypotube manufacturing
- Laser micromachining & tube processing
- Medical device manufacturing
Pneumatic, Dead-Length Collet Chuck
ASR1400 greatly simplifies workholding with an integral, high-precision pneumatic collet chuck that accepts readily available Swiss-style TF20 collets. It offers exceptional versatility, making it ideal for processing long tubes ranging from 0.2 to 15.0 mm in diameter, especially when the tube “feed-and-advance” accuracy is paramount (such as when processing longer tubes requiring multiple “grip-advance-regrip” operations). Axial error motion during tube advance is negligible, thanks to the dead-length collet chuck design. This minimizes spot-placement and stitching errors. The collet is normally closed, requiring air pressure to open. Add a Collet and Gripper Filtration Kit for effortless integration into machines and subsystems.
Sealed Construction
ASR1400 is built with robust ingress protection, featuring durable, high-speed seals in the front and rear of the stage. This barrier helps to protect key internal components, including the bearings, motor, collet chuck mechanism and position feedback device, from process debris and other contaminants, thereby preventing unexpected downtime and premature wear-and-tear. ASR1400’s sealed construction results in a highly dependable stage, keeping your process running smoothly with minimal maintenance.
Brushless Direct Drive
ASR1400 uses brushless, direct-drive motor technology to maximize speed and precision. Direct-drive technology is optimized for 24/7 production environments because there are no brushes to replace and no gear trains or belts to maintain. Direct-drive motors further provide quicker acceleration and higher top speeds than gear- or belt-driven mechanisms, resulting in higher throughput. This makes ASR1400 an excellent choice for processing cylindrical and tubular materials. ASR1400’s low-maintenance and high-throughput characteristics contribute to its low total cost of ownership and its ability to provide a high return on investment.

- Certified with the -PL2 metrology option.
- Maximum speed based on stage capability. Requires selection of appropriate amplifier with sufficient voltage and current. Aerotech recommends the use of an Automation1 30-amp drive.
- The TF20 collet mechanism is normally closed and requires air pressure to open. Aerotech recommends 99.99% pure nitrogen. Alternatively, compressed air can be used if it is dry and oil-free. Nitrogen or air must be filtered to 1 µm particle size or better. Aerotech’s Collet and Gripper Filtration Kit is designed to achieve filtering and drying requirements.
- Maximum loads are mutually exclusive. Loading limits are due to the collet chuck mechanism. Contact factory if part load requirements exceed specifications.
- Runout (TIR) specification is based on measurement of precision gage pin 10 mm away from the collet face.
